Please welcome our new writer, Will Yee

My first exposure to trance music was years ago, sometime before high school when my brother shared his gigantic iTunes library with me. Deep within those thousands of songs were several tracks from Gouryella, the now legendary trance duo of DJ Tiesto and Ferry Corsten. For several years this was my only encounter with electronic dance music as a whole, and gradually with no one to drag me deeper into the scene my interest faded away. Years later, I would be re-introduced to electronic dance music and rediscover for myself the music that I had long forgotten. Artists like Cosmic Gate, Armin Van Buuren, and Gareth Emery, suddenly became my favorite musical artists.
As I started going to parties and events I began to understand the differences between the different sub-genre’s of electronic music and found that indeed, not everything was techno. It was through this that I understood that what I really, truly cared for was trance. Not to say I don’t have my favorite house, electro, and occasionally hardcore tracks but the one that really stood out to me was trance. Since realizing this, it’s been a wild chase, hunting my favorite DJ’s whenever they find their way to the Bay Area, road trips to EDC and TAO, and while abroad I managed to attend an iteration of Sensation White as well as the DJ Mag Top 100 party in Amsterdam.I love trance music, and I love the edm scene as a whole. I’m constantly trying to find new music from any genre and I’m very open, so tweet me some tracks or hit me on fb with your favorite and I’ll give it a listen. My hope for TranceFamilySF and #trancefamily as a whole is to help this new era of trance and edm fans understand and appreciate the music, the artists, and the scene.294027_2144740131729_281393_n

Trance is one of the few sounds that is appreciated around the world, regardless of nationality, race, religion, and all of the other bullshit that constrains human interaction, lets keep it that way! #trancefamily around the world
