Day 2 certainly was a lot dryer than day 1, but that would not have been very hard to accomplish to say the least. The closer tonight was the #1 DJ in the world, Hardwell and he did not disappoint. Some dark clouds did begin to form around 3 or 4pm but luckily the skies did not open up but rather they embraced the Icona Pop set as they blasted their hit single – I love it.
The PLUR could be seen everywhere today in the crystal clear skies – you know that happens after a storm. People were out and out to have a lot of fun.
So let’s start with the end first. The man. Hardwell. Some highlights of his set included, “Take Me To Church” and even The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.” Those two tracks rocked down the house and add some pyro and flames to the mix, it was an audible and visible sight to be seen. Throughout his set Hardwell played tracks from his brand new artist album United We Are including Nothing Can Hold Us down and also at one point invited his best bud, Dannic to debut their new track which is sure to be a hit called Survivor.
A few years ago, actually more like two years ago, everybody was playing that song Animal by that little known 17-year-old DJ called Martin Garrix. No one actually knew who he was or what he did, but they were very familiar, almost all too familiar with this monster track. Yet at this year’s Ultra Garrix did something veery special. He walked off the stage as one of the best DJs in the world with a wide repertoire of tracks that spoke of him to his fans. It’s been great to see this kid grow up before us and become one of the tour de forces within the EDM scene. Even Usher joined Martin on stage as they performed their brand new hit collab together, called Don’t Look Down. It was awesome to see how pop, hip, hop, and electronic music are melding together to become almost one amazing genre.
On a sidenote, at the smaller UMF Radio Stage, a new act called Snails absolutely brought this house down. They played some heavy core house and trap infused stuff that was certainly a new sound that we have not yet hear. If you have not checked out these guys before, make sure to put that on your to do list. They are an act to be followed closely and should prove to be something to look forward to in the future. Finally Day 3 is almost upon us.
